Sunday + Monday

A few sketches from Creative City Centre's uplifting Sunday night show with Buckman Coe. My favorite song was one called Stars Over Tokyo, which I was disappointed to discover he hadn't recorded yet... but it gives me a reason to keep tabs on him I suppose. They're headed out to Montreal and back, and being from BC that's no small feat. Great guys, + they had some funny tour stories already: double booked at a venue in Lethbridge where there was a Star Wars themed art opening going on instead (complete with quintessential Star Wars fans of course) They'll be doing a bunch of festivals this summer, I've got my fingers crossed to see them again.
And this one is from last night's final installment of a series of talks about school and society put on by the University and Prof. Mark Spooner. I've been to a couple now and both times have been pretty interesting. Last night's talk was on school reform. Hosted at La Bodega, and even got some free food. I like the atmosphere in there, very warm, lots of orange-y-ness.

Just a Tuesday

The Artful Dodger project is coming along nicely. Attached to the gallery will be a library (!) so books are being donated and bit by bit they're being labelled / catalogued. Right now there's a huge pile on what will be the stage in the main cafe space. There's some really gorgeous books amongst the stacks, so for now they're covered in plastic while work is still being done.

Lunch to go at 13th Avenue Coffeehouse. I had falafel, but this girl I assume was having one of their rice bowls, hence the chopsticks.

And finally, audience sketches from a talk at the library about the history of College Avenue...

Music Monday

Back at Creative City Centre. Monday was our local lovely, Julia McDougall along with a couple bands from Vancouver touring all the way to Montreal! One called Redbird, the other, Portage and Main. Super nice folk, the show was great. Maybe a little late for a normal Monday night, but totally worth it.

Paris

So I was thinking of occasionally throwing in a sketch or two from my travels / year abroad to break up the blog a bit. These two are from Paris in May of last year. The first one is a detail of an old window, the second, rooflines.

Slow Food Pub

I've gone to this place a fair bit since I've been back in Regina. They brew their own beer, which is relatively cheap and delicious. + Their pretzel with sauerkraut mustard is amazing. (I need more sauerkraut mustard in my life) Went in there today on a break from work asking for a soup to go... they didn't have any vegetarian soup made, but were super nice and offered to whip something up, giving me enough time to do this quick sketch. Their decor is pretty eclectic, and even though I'm not a particular fan of animal trophy heads, it does make for interesting surroundings...
