A couple sketches done yesterday from inside my studio space. The closet is storage right now, but is holding treasures that will soon be used for a darkroom in the basement. The other is the corner ; I just thought the objects and shadows would be interesting to draw. I share my space with Carol, the founder of this whole awesome new space.
More about the project here.
And I'll definitely have more sketches from there soon...

Glide!
Thursday evening I helped out at an event called Glide. Live music, fashion show + contemporary dance all put together to raise money / awareness about shark finning. Sketches that night all had to be very quick (30 seconds-ish) A friend and I were manning the t-shirt / donation table, and I'm happy to report we were steadily busy the whole evening. Wish I could've sketched more of these fashionable people, but here's what I managed...
Now these last two are of the contemporary dancer at the end. She was amazing and was wearing a huge billowy blue dress. Her performance was seriously great.

Visitors
It's February break for just about anyone going to school this week... which means the museum is pretty busy. Lots of visitors, crafts, scavenger hunts and general fun times at the museum. Being at the front desk at times can be uber busy, but I did manage to get in a few people sketches.

Concert + Work
Went to the Leanne Zacharius concert early Friday evening at the Artesian on 13th Avenue (such a good venue). She played a great selection of contemporary pieces on the cello (maybe the first time I've heard any John Cage live...) I drew a little in the dark, I need to practice that I suppose.
Then today a couple sketches from work. A visitor, and the corner of the monitor room.

New Hill Tower / Hamilton Street
A couple sketches to put up today. One done earlier this afternoon of the under construction 3rd Hill Tower downtown. It seems to be progressing fairly quickly, I'll probably do a couple more before it's all done.
Then, one sketch from yesterday, a little section of Hamilton Street, done while having an early dinner at the Green Spot Cafe.

Songwriter Sunday
Last night was Songwriter Sunday at the Creative City Centre. This has become one of my main hangout places around the city. A couple Sundays a month they have 3 or 4 songwriters on stage and they go around one by one, playing songs and talking about their songwriting process. The show is followed by an open mic where anyone can get up and play whatever they want. It's a solid event, and I especially like that it's on Sunday nights. Perfect end to the weekend.
Sweet n' Fresh
I'd been meaning to check this place out for awhile, so before work on Friday I finally got my chance. Though I only had money for tea and a slice of lemon / blueberry loaf, I'll definitely be back to try out more of their menu... candied apples, cupcakes, various egg breakfasts + sandwiches! Soon...
Sketched a corner view of the Courthouse on Victoria Avenue and a red haired lady inside the cafe.

Job training
Just at some training for new employees. Not the most exciting of days, but I did manage to sneak in a few sketches...
Downtown / 13th Avenue Coffeehouse
These sketches were done awhile ago, around the city's new downtown plaza, which offers a huge wide open space for people watching. Took a stroll down the pedestrian part of Scarth Street and did a bit of sketching of the Old City Hall Mall from the upper level of Tramps Music and Books. Capped off this mini-sketch crawl with 13th Avenue Coffeehouse, which has the most amazing fresh food things.

City Council Meeting
A couple sketches from a marathon meeting held near the end of January. The main issues were decisions affecting affordable housing.
I loved these three ladies who got up and spoke before council. They had very moving stories about the hardships faced by tenants forced to evacuate one of Regina's last affordable rental housing units. One woman had moved here from Edmonton for a job, but hasn't managed to find stable, accessible affordable housing.
More details on the issue here.
