MTL - Catch Up

Couple of sketches from Montreal. First one if from alongside the Canal Lachine, the second, a far off skyline. Soon to come... Berlin!

Catch-Up

Lots has happened in the past 3 months... I was on tour playing violin out in BC and Alberta, then moved to Montreal for 2 months, did an East Coast camping trip, and am now starting to settle in to Berlin. (!!)
Some sketches from the beach from last weekend... things here and there from the past 3 months are on their way...

End of winter... finally.

Winter is finally loosening what has been a 7 month death grip. Things are muddy! But Wascana Park and the surrounding areas are walkable again. This is a sketch of an old building on the Legislative grounds.

New York

So! I've been on a month long trip out east, hitting Pittsburgh, New York, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. The experience was great. Old friends, new faces, art and travel. I'll be posting some sketches up in pieces, here's a few from New York. The first ones are from a place right across from my hostel called Cafe Grumpy, and the last one is from a place called Five Napkin Burger, home of a ridiculously delicious veggie burger. (!)

Story Telling

Audience member sketches from last Thursday's evening of story telling at the Artful Dodger.

Street Views

It's been bitterly cold here... not the best for urban sketches, BUT, I am planning a trip to NYC, and while researching / mapping, I started using street view to check things out. After a few minutes, it really struck me  how many people were present along the different streets of New York, and thought it appropriate to sketch  a few of them.
Did some blind contouring too which I haven't done in awhile...

Winter aparments

It's full blown winter here now. Apartment building drawn from Naked Bean, a new coffee / espresso place on Broad.

Fixin it

Fixing a banner on the corner of 12th and Hamilton around 8pm last night.

Junk-y

I love walking down alleys in Regina... I'm not sure what it is about it... the ad hoc-ness, the junk that accumulates / rests in various places... Whatever it is, I like it. Everything seems to be getting ready for snow.

Further West

A few sketches from my trip out West. Just people in here...

Newspaper-y

Done in Atlantis yesterday between work shifts. End of the day reader.
And secondly, a view of Regina's "eternal flame" for Golf's Steakhouse, just across the street from Atlantis. Suited men were milling around outside, smoking and storytelling.

Smith + College (ish)

I've just come back from a two week trip out to BC and Alberta, so I'll have a few sketches from that trip up as soon as I unpack and locate that sketchbook. In the meantime, this is from today's delightfully warm fall afternoon...

Lang Insurance

Lang Insurance on Albert Street done while waiting for the bus. (I don't believe there's any relation to Lang's Cafe... but you never know!)

9.06.2012

Broad Street

Lang's Cafe and all that goes with it. Quick sketch while eating an after work bagel before going over to studio.

Around back...

A sketch from the alley side of Nature's Best, one of my favorite Regina places. Solar powered juice / smoothie bar and your standard hippy / health food stood. Yum.

Park + Dusk

A few sketches from Victoria Park / Plaza over the noon hour done with the Dunlop Gallery / Regina Public Library Drop n Draw, which happens every Tuesday in the park from 12-1. They've been doing it all summer, and though I've only been able to attend a couple times, I think it's a great little initiative.
Then in the evening, I did this one of a house across the street just as the light was fading.

8.10.2012

Folk Fest (!!)

Friday at the Regina Folk Fest. I managed to catch the first musical event! A free noon hour concert on the Scarth Street Stage from a great band called Wooden Sky. Lots of people sitting and enjoying the sun and the music. I was sad to leave, but definitely served to get me even mooore excited for this weekend.

Commercial

Near-ish where I live. This is a loading dock / commercial back alley area. Plus a garbage truck.

8.01.2012

Alleyway

A look down an alleyway off of 15th Avenue near Montreal Street while out for an evening walk.

Construction

Mid summer construction is in full swing. These are from the site on Lorne and 12th, just west of the downtown plaza.

7.25.2012

Workshop

A couple sketches of participants in a pedestrian workshop I did yesterday as part of Design Regina and the transit masterplan.

7.04.2012

Rosemont

Watercolour from 4th Avenue in the Rosemont neighbourhood. Rosemont is the focus of the Morph My City Challenge, imagining this neighbourhood, and Regina, in the year 2040. The top entries will be invited to the National Infrastructure Summit here in Regina, which takes place September 10-12. I'm confident there will be some great submissions and ideas, I'm quite looking forward to the results.

Bees please

I found a dead bee yesterday on the path of the museum's Native Prairie Garden. So of course I drew it. And put it in a little case for closer inspection. This sketch is actually yellow and black. I don't have access to a colour scanner at the moment, but wanted to put this up all the same.

Word UP!

Last night was Word Up Wednesday, normally held at the Creative City Centre, this week took place at the Artesian (too many people for the CCC!). There was two full rounds, plus a great set from Charles Hamilton from Saskatoon, who also hosted for the evening. Here's a couple audience member sketches from the break.
